VIPCare is an interfaith, not-for profit counseling and educational institute. The mission of the Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care is to restore healing and hope through counseling and education. VIPCare has served more than 100,000 clients since our founding in 1967. We currently serve more than 700 clients each year, including children, teenagers, families, couples, and seniors. VIPCare counselors are trained mental health professionals with a unique sensitivity to the dynamics of behavior and faith.

Executive director

After more than a decade of dedicated leadership, our beloved Doug Thorpe will be retiring from his role as Executive Director of the Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care. Under Doug's guidance, VIPCare has grown in its capacity to offer compassionate, spiritually integrated counseling to individuals, couples, and families across Virginia. We are deeply grateful for his years of service and the strong foundation he leaves behind.

As we look toward VIPCare's next chapter, we are beginning the search for our next Executive Director — a leader who will carry forward our mission with the same care, integrity, and vision.
